Job Description
The State University of New York at Fredonia seeks qualified applicants for a non-tenure track, academic-year appointment as Lecturer in Physics. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching introductory undergraduate courses in the department, including the algebra-based physics sequence. This position has the potential to be renewed. There are no assigned duties during the summer months, but there are opportunities for summer teaching for additional salary. The Lecturer should be knowledgeable in curriculum and course design, including effective pedagogy and equitable assessment ensuring continuous improvement of these courses, as well as in evaluating the success of new offerings, and able to work collaboratively with faculty.
A master’s degree in physics or a closely related area is required by date of hire. Demonstrated effective college-level teaching in physics, effective written and oral communication skills, and demonstrated familiarity with and/or openness to active engagement teaching strategies are also required. Preferred qualifications include any of the following: experience teaching astronomy courses, experience with planetarium and/or telescope operations for education and outreach, New York State Certification for Adolescence Education in Physics or closely related field, and/or a doctoral degree in physics, astronomy or a closely related area. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience with implementing active engagement and/or research-based strategies for learning and teaching physics.
